Prayers for Rick and his family, I have known Rick most all my life. what a kind and gentle man he was. My family owned a trailer park in Tulsa back in the day seems like a lifetime ago. Rick and his family lived there and that is where we met. Rick was always a good friend to me, before I could go out and play with my friends, I had to get my work done around the trailer park. Rick was always jumping in and giving me a hand so we could get out and play. One summer back in 1957(that was 65 years ago) I ask my dad if he would build us a swimming pool in an out of the way area of the trailer park so we could keep cool during hot summer days. My dad told me if I would dig the hole he would install and connect the drainpipes and do the concrete work. The out of the way area for the pool just so happened to be in front of Ricks family’s Trailer so I knew I could always count on Rick for back up and support( I was 8 years old at the time Rick was 10). We started the dig right away and the summer kept getting hotter, Rick would go through the trailer park and kept recruiting help from all the other kids that lived there. Thinking back on it now and knowing my dad I really don’t think he thought that pool would ever get dug, but it did it was only three and a half feet deep but before the summer was over, we had water in it. Now knowing my dad(we mostly got direction from him), us kids did most the work putting in the drainpipes connecting them backfilling them placing the concrete and even putting up a fence around the pool. The pool was in operation for years didn’t look bad either! Rick and his mother moved to Springfield somewhere around 1963 I would come up and stay with them on occasions sometimes for a week or two and sometimes just passing through we somehow stayed in touch with each other even after our military and parenting days. I purity much stayed on the East coast after getting out of the Navy, my family lives in Oklahoma so going from one point to the next I would usually be going through Springfield stopping for a visit on many occasions. I am going to dearly miss my friend Rick he was a good and honest man. I know God will have a special place for him up in heaven. Richard A. Totten SR. Rest in Peace.
