James W. Brown of Springfield passed away December 5, 2022, surrounded by many family members and his wife of nearly 70 years, Dixie Brown.
Jim was born January 6, 1935, on his family’s farm near Stoutland, Missouri. He was the seventh of eight children. His Father and Mother were Tom and Ruby Brown. Jim loved growing up on the family farm and always enjoyed farming. Jim married Dixie Offutt on June 26, 1953, at her parent’s home.
Jim graduated from Stoutland High School and played on the basketball team. He and Dixie moved for a few years to Fullerton California but returned to live in Springfield in 1965. Jim worked for the Lily Tulip Cup Company and its successor companies until retiring in 1997.
Jim was an active member and Deacon of the Second Baptist Church. He loved the Lord and was a great volunteer for many activities of the Church. He was especially proud of working at the “Victory Garden” that grows food for the underprivileged persons in the area. Jim was an avid gardener at home as well and his backyard garden was amazing each year.
He was a true people person and was one that never met a stranger. He was well liked by everyone he met throughout his life.
Jim loved camping and travel, pulling a camper around the United States. He also was a member of Treasure Lake in Branson. He and Dixie spent many weeks at Treasure Lake and especially loved taking their Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren with them each year. Along with camping, Jim enjoyed fishing at area lakes.
Jim’s survivors include his wife, Dixie; Children Anita and Nancy and their spouses Randall Moots and Kelly Mills; Grandchildren Laura Holmes, Brian Moots, Chad Moots, Katie Spencer, and Thomas Mills; Great Grandchildren Alexandra, Anna, Asher, Abby, Emma, Sophie, Lily, Riley, Charlotte, Olivia, Kolby and Owen; Great, Great Grandchildren Aiden and Atlas and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
Jim was preceded in death by his Father and Mother Tom and Ruby Brown, brothers Harry, Vadie and Sid and sisters Melvie, LaGayle, Mollie and Tommie.
The memorial service will be held December 13th, 2022, at Second Baptist Church, 3111 E. Battlefield St. Springfield, MO 65804 at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will be prior to the memorial service at 12:00 p.m. Graveside service following at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 3600 N. National, Springfield, MO 65803.
