Calvin Eugene Stoops, age 71 of Bolivar, MO, passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2022, in his home.  He was born September 4, 1951, at Redtop, MO, to Oral and Virginia (Slater) Stoops.  He graduated from Buffalo High School the class of 1969. 

          Calvin enjoyed playing baseball and football, having received an offer letter to play football for Marshall University.  In 1968 he received from playing football selections to the All-Ozarks team, Ozark Central All-star pick, and All -State 2A honorable Mention Offensive Back.  He also loved hauling hay, which cost him a try-out in front of a Detroit Tigers baseball Scout. 

          Calvin was saved in 1961, and later joined Green Mountain Missionary Baptist Church.  He was a Missionary Baptist Preacher and ordained in 1999, at Green Mountain, having preached at churches in Cedar, Greene, Laclede, and Polk counties.  He worked for Kraft Foods for 37 years before retiring.

          He is preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather Ernest Reed who raised him in whom he always considered his dad; and his first wife Beverly Stoops.

          Calvin is survived by his wife Sharon of the home; his son Kyle Stoops of Boqueron, Puerto Rico; his daughter Amanda Oberbeck (Paul) of Conway, MO; four grandchildren: Krisha Quinlan, Hayden Chiasson, Alia Chiasson, and Anjell Chiasson; one great grandson Carson Quinlan; a sister Gwenna McClease of Renton, WA; a brother Dennis Reed (Chris) of Marshfield, MO; nieces: Brandy McClease, and Traci Smithson (Chris); nephews: Ian McClease(Garmyn), Colten Reed; great nephews: Connor McClease, and Colin Smithson; a great niece Megan Smithson; his in-laws Lowell and Betty Blankenship; a sister in-law Brenda Wrinkle; as well as many other relatives, church families, and friends.

          Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Monday, December 26, 2022, at Pitts Chapel.  Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday, December 27, 2022, in the funeral home with Bro.’s Kip Baker and Donnie Lane officiating.  Burial will follow at Gann Cemetery Conway, MO.  Memorial contributions are asked to either: St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, or Center Point Missionary Baptist Church.  Online condolences may be made at: www.greenlawnfuneralhome.com.   Arrangements have been entrusted to Pitts Chapel Bolivar, MO.
