Gene Robison, age 96, passed away on Monday January 9, 2023, while in Cox Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. Gene was preceded in death by his parents Lucile and Virgil Robison, his wife Shirley Robison, and his brother Dan Robison.

Gene was born to Virgil and Lucile Robison in Hopkins, Missouri on a cold and snowy morning on January 8, 1927. His family moved to Barnard, Missouri a few days later and Gene claimed Barnard as his hometown.

In 1936, the family moved to Topeka, Kansas where he graduated from high school and then attended Kansas University in Lawrence, Kansas. In 1944, he enlisted in the Navy and was a Pharmacist’s Mate at the Great Lakes Navy Hospital in the Plastic and Neural Surgery section. In 1946, he returned to KU to finish his education. While there, on a blind date, he met Shirley Constantos from Leavenworth, Kansas whom he later married in 1949.

After graduating from KU, he was hired by GMAC, the financing arm of General Motors. During his career Gene & Shirley lived in seven different locations, the last one being Springfield, Missouri where he served as Branch Manager. After 38 years with GMAC, he retired in Springfield, Missouri. He enjoyed his retirement years with many activities including gardening, volunteering at the Cox Hospital gift shop for many years, and even teaching himself how to use a computer which he constantly used to communicate to people with and to study the Bible with.

Gene was determined to remain in his home even after his wife of 73 years, Shirley, passed away. He was able to do the daily tasks of living independently including driving until the last few months. With the help of many, he was able to continue to live independently at home. He truly appreciated all the help that he received and all the friendships made.

Gene is survived by his three sons Dr. David Robison (wife Sandi) of Willard, Mike Robison of Dallas, Steve Robison of Oklahoma City and a grandson Dr. Damon Robison (wife Funmi) of Springfield.

Beyond his family, his greatest pleasures were being a member of the church of Christ, attending church services, studying the Bible, and sending encouraging messages to his many friends even while facing health issues. He would often hand home health care workers Bible lessons that he had written. He was looking forward to experiencing the many biblical truths that are revealed in the Bible about life after physical death.

Visitation is at 11:00 am Friday January 20, 2023 with the service celebrating his life beginning at 11:30am. Burial will be in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery with a private service with only the family present at 1:00pm. Dwight Samuel will be officiating the funeral service and the private burial service.
