Billy “The real Bill Murray” Murray, late of Plano TX, passed away on February 11, 2023 at T Boone Pickens Center at Faith Presbyterian Hospice. He died peacefully without pain.
Billy was born on November 4, 1932 in Blackshear GA and had a very successful life. He graduated from Blackshear High School in 1949 and earned his Master Barber license in 1963.
He owned Lakeshor Barbershop for over 50 years and was active in the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and Shriners throughout his life. Additionally, he served in the US Navy from 1950-1954 as a machinist on the USS Antium.
Billy was a devoted family man. He married his beloved wife Norma in 1958, and they welcomed their son Victor in 1959 and daughter in 1962. He was also an active member of his church and enjoyed singing in a gospel quartet as a young man.
In addition to this, Billy was known for his generosity and kind heart – he often helped out strangers in need, stopping to give strangers a jump when their car battery was dead. In addition he was passionate about rescuing abandoned animals. He even captured a stray dog on the Harbor Freeway in Los Angeles in 1965, and saved his life.
In the late seventies, while active in the Scottish Rite, Billy raised money for a breathing machine for a young child, allowing them to spend their last months at home with their parents.
Billy is survived by his son Victor Murray and wife Pam; grandson Blake; granddaughters Ashton, Kelsey, and Kaitlyn. Billy was preceded in death by his wife, Norma; his daughter, Lori.
A celebration of Billy’s life will be at 3:00 pm, Saturday, May 20, 2023 at Greenlawn Funeral Home South. His burial will be alongside his wife.
The family has requested that expressions of condolences be made in the form of charitable donations to the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children.
