Jerry David Mitchell, age 84, of Willard, Missouri, passed away on April 10, 2023, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. Jerry David Mitchell, age 84, of Willard, Missouri, passed away on April 10, 2023, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. Jerry was born to Albert and Lucy Mitchell (Herd) on December 15, 1938, in Springfield. He was raised in Willard and graduated from Willard High School in 1958. Jerry was united in marriage to Barbara Lindsey on June 8, 1962, in Willard. Jerry and Barbara shared 61 years of marriage. Jerry proudly served in the United States Air Force for 20 years before his honorable discharge; his final rank was Tech Sergeant. He was very proud of his military service and was grateful to serve his nation in the United States Air Force. Jerry and Barbara were blessed with three children: Lori, Teresa, and Derek.
After a lengthy career in the Air Force, Jerry was employed with the Missouri National Guard AVCRAD where he worked in security for 20 years. When not working, he had many interests and pastimes including fishing, bowling, and traveling. Nothing, however, brought him more fulfillment than spending time with family. Jerry will be remembered for his generosity, giving of his time and resources to help relieve the burdens of others. He was often described as a kind soul with traditional values.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, and two brothers. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughters, Lori Cottrell and Teresa Vaught and husband, Chris; son, Derek Mitchell and wife, Dinah; grandchildren, Kyle Cottrell, Kris Cottrell, Kirk Cottrell, Remington Haingaertner, Sterling Haingaertner, Skyler Mitchell, Brooke White, and Lily Mitchell; and great grandchildren, Revan Mitchell, Walker Mitchell, Tritan Mitchell, Lyla Cottrell, and Emmarie Cottrell.
A visitation for Jerry will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2023, from 10:00-11:00 am, at Greenlawn Funeral Home North in Springfield. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 11:00 am at Greenlawn Funeral Home North. Jerry will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Cemetery located in Willard, Missouri.
