Virginia Irene Wantland passed away in the early hours of May 21, 2023 at the age of 92 at Spring Ridge Assisted Living, where she had been a resident for 3 years. She was the 4th daughter born to Huber and Perna McLemore on December 23, 1930 in Greenfield, MO, where she lived until her teens. The family moved to Springfield and she graduated from Springfield Senior High School in 1949.
Virginia married Edsel (Sy) Wantland December 14, 1949. They were married 64 years, until his passing in 2014. They had two children, Larry and Lisa. She worked at Kraft Foods 16 years before retiring in 1988. She then worked part time at Sam’s Club as a demonstrator for 7 years before retiring full time.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Edsel, in 2014, and her daughter-in-law Gayle Wantland in 2015, and her faithful companion, Max, in 2022. She was also preceded in death by 4 sisters and 1 brother, Mary Jackson (Harry), Betty Jean Grabast (Jim), Martha Fisher (Otis), Connie Myers (Dale) and Robert McLemore (Jean). She is survived by her son Larry Wantland of Rogersville, grandsons Jason and his wife Elizabeth, Evan and his wife Missy, of Springfield, and granddaughter Meghan Howard of Ohio, daughter Lisa Ehrhart and her husband Jack of Rogersville and grandson Nick Ehrhart of Fredericksburg, VA.
No visitation is planned. A graveside service will be held Thursday, May 24 at 1:00 pm at Greenlawn North Cemetery.
