Doris Virginia Maggi, 88, of Bolivar, Missouri, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2023. Doris was born on March 4, 1935, in Smithton, Missouri to Ernest and Virginia Schlobohm. She was a graduate of Smith-Cotton High School in Sedalia, Missouri. Doris was married to her high school sweetheart, Leroy “Joe” Shoemaker from September 25, 1954, until Joe’s passing in 1976. She later married Bill Maggi.
Doris was a homemaker, raising her family and taking care of everyone. She was as beautiful inside as she was out. She was a lifetime Auxiliary Member at CMH, a lifelong Methodist, and current member of Open Hearts United Methodist in Bolivar. Doris loved flowers and always had a beautiful garden full of birds. She made many crochet and knitting projects, including making her family afghans. In her later years, she enjoyed puzzles and floral, Biblical coloring books. Doris cleaned her house, fixed her own hair, and flipped her own mattress until the day she died.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Joe; her second husband, Bill; three brothers: Vance, Wesley Gene, and Bobby Lee Schlobohm, and stepson, Michael Richard Maggi.
She is survived by her son, Mike Shoemaker; daughters: Terri Krahenbuhl (Mark), Beth Collum (David), and Stacy Hanson (James); ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; brothers: JD, David, and Marion Schlobohm; sisters: Betty Rezin, Judie Sparks, and Lynda Maloney; four stepchildren and their families, and many other family and friends.
A Celebration of Life for Doris will take place on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., at Open Hearts United Methodist Church in Bolivar.
Memorial contributions may be made in Doris’ name to CMH Auxiliary, D.A.V., or Open Hearts United Methodist Church.
