William Richard Dedmon, age 86, of Springfield, passed away on February 10, 2024. William was born to Ralph and Irene (nee Benton) Dedmon on August 2, 1937, in Springfield, Missouri. He was raised in Springfield and graduated from Central High School in 1955. Bill was married to Kathryn Noe on June 14, 1958, and shared 43 years of marriage before amicably divorcing. They remained friends until Bill’s passing. Bill and Kathy were blessed with three children, Teresa Marchandise, Todd Dedmon, and Tonya Stokes. Bill proudly served in the United States Air Force Reserves for several years. The last 20 plus years of Bill’s life were spent with his long-time companion, Lou Miller.
Bill was employed as the Warehouse Coordinator for the Springfield Public Schools and retired from there in 2001 after 35 years of dedicated service. When not working he had many interests and pastimes including traveling, spending time outdoors and at the beach, walking, running, and biking. Bill also participated in Civil War reenactments for many years and was a Civil War history buff. Nothing, however, brought him more joy than spending time with his beloved dog, Angel. Bill will be remembered as a kind-hearted, fun-loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Friends and coworkers never had a negative thing to say about him.
Bill was preceded in death by his father and mother, Ralph Dedmon and Irene Dedmon Charbonneau. He is survived by his daughter, Teresa Marchandise and husband, Bruno; son, Todd Dedmon and wife, Heidi; daughter, Tonya Stokes and husband, Dan; six grandchildren, Ashley Harper, Hailey Smith, Amber Dedmon, Brynden Cann, Corey Cann, and Briana Marchandise; and four great-grandchildren, Heath Harper, Hannah Harper, Emery Harper, and Gracie Smith.
There will be a short graveside service on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at 1:00 P.M., in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are under the direction of Greenlawn Funeral Home North in Springfield.
