Venton Herald Haskins, age 89, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away on August 27, 2024. Venton was born to Lexa Haskins and Pauline Haskins on April 20, 1935 in Midland, MI. He was raised in Midland, MI and graduated from Logan-Rogersville in 1952.
Venton was united in marriage to Dorothy Filbeck on December 21, 1952 in Springfield, MO. Venton and Dorothy shared 71 years of marriage before Venton’s untimely passing on August 27, 2024. Venton proudly served in the United States Army for two and a half years before his honorable discharge. The couple were blessed with two children.
Venton received his PhD in the Philosophy of Education from the University of Missouri. Venton was employed as a vocational agriculture and Earth science teacher at Bridgewater-Fontanelle, IA and Springfield Public Schools. When not working, he had many interests and pastimes including wood-working, camping, and fishing. Nothing, however, brought him more fulfillment than his family, church service, and teaching others. Venton will be remembered as a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather. People have described Venton as a wise, caring, and multi-talented man.
Venton was preceded in death by his parents Lexa and Pauline Haskins and his brother Vernon Haskins.
He is survived by his spouse Dorothy Haskins; daughter Rebecca Edwards and son-in-law Greg; daughter Deborah Hostetler; brothers Verlin Haskins (Connie) and Dwain Haskins; grandchildren Noelle Corolueski, Ryan Hostetler (Sarah), Christopher Edwards (Brooke), and Amanda Horton (Caleb); great-grandsons Malachi Hostetler, Elisha Hostetler, Hunter Edwards, Wyatt Edwards, Ezekiel Hostetler, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A visitation for Venton will be held on September 5, 2024 at 5:30 to 7:30 pm, at Greenlawn Funeral Home South. A service for him will be held on September 6, 2024 at 1:00 pm at Sunset Church of Christ, with a burial to follow at Smith Cemetery located on East Farm Road 186 in Rogersville, MO 65742.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in Venton’s memory to Fair Haven Children’s Home.
