Patricia “Pat” Ann O’Neill, age 83, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away on November 19, 2024, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield. Pat was born to Waylon and Geraldine Whiteley on February 28, 1941, in Springfield, where she remained a lifelong resident. She graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1959 as a member of the school’s very first graduating class. Pat was united in marriage to William David O’Neill in a double-wedding ceremony with her sister, Sharon, and brother-in-law, Charlie Owens. David and Pat were married sixty-five years before her recent untimely passing. The couple was blessed with two children, Jeffery and Cindy.
Pat was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. She enjoyed a variety of hobbies and pastimes such as going to garage sales, shopping at thrift stores, and always searching for good deals on purses and handbags. She was particularly fond of her Coach purse collection. When not looking for rare finds and bargains, Pat enjoyed spending time with her sister on the telephone, listening to Elvis Presley, watching NASCAR, and cheering for her favorite Penske Racing drivers such as Kurt Busch and Joey Logano. Pat was a Mopar enthusiast who proudly owned Dodge vehicles. She was also an excellent cook who was known for making meals from scratch. Her homemade macaroni and cheese was always a family favorite. Pat will be deeply missed by all those whose life she touched.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Waylon and Geraldine Whiteley, and her brother-in-law, Charlie Owens. She is survived by her husband, David O’Neill; son, Jeffery O’Neill and his significant other, Debbie; daughter, Cindy Boren and her husband, Mark; granddaughter, Kami Boren; sister, Sharon Owens; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
