Gloria Marie Mingus , age 93, passed away on January 29, 2025. Gloria was born July 21, 1931, in Springfield, Missouri, to Melvin and Zula Crocker Fenley. She was a graduate of Central High School and after graduation moved to Anchorage, Alaska where she worked in retail, enjoyed many adventures, and made many life-long friends at her church and work. She had many stories of driving the Alaska Highway when she would come home for a visit. In the mid-50’s, Gloria moved from Anchorage to Riverside, California where she first worked for Rohr Aircraft. She then went to work in the Accounting Department for Riverside County. She retired in 1988 after completing 35 years with the County. Upon retiring, Gloria moved back to Springfield to be with family and friends. She was a member of South Haven Baptist Church and felt she had a “designated pew” just for her. She loved animals – especially her dogs, adventure, traveling in her RV, time spent at Table Rock Lake, reading pure crime stories, and the Kansas City Chiefs. Even after retiring to Springfield, she maintained contact with many friends and co-workers she had met along the way. She also reunited with her “Golden Girls”, a group of ladies who had been friends since childhood. She had a great sense of humor and always found the funniest birthday cards for family members.
Gloria is preceded in death by both her parents as well as two sisters, Dorothy Fenley Martin, and Gladys Fenley Sanders, brother in laws William Martin and Leon Sanders, and several cousins, nieces and nephews. She is survived by nephews Melvin Sanders (Pam), David Sanders, and Kelly Martin (Janice), and nieces Pamela Morgan, Nancy Ray, and Kathy Maulorico (Tony), as well as a host of great nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff at The Manor at Elfindale and Preferred Hospice for their excellent care of Gloria in her final days.
A memorial service will be held at 10 am Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Greenlawn North Funeral Home with burial to follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the compassionate direction of Greenlawn Funeral Home North in Springfield, Missouri.
