It is with both sadness and celebration that we announce the passing of Grace (Cobb) Pursley, who departed this life on June 8, 2025, at the age of 95. Born on December 20, 1929, in Bentonville, Missouri. She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Jesse James Pursley April 12, 1951. She was a member of the Bolivar United Methodist Church. Jessie and Grace were leaders in the community for several years.
Grace attended and graduated from Warsaw High School and received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Drury College. Grace lived a remarkable life dedicated to the education of young minds. With a master’s degree in hand, she spent her career as a teacher in primary education, starting out in a one room schoolhouse in Benton County. She later transferred to the Bolivar School District, where she retired. She was awarded a master teachers award from the Bolivar School District, and in 2001 received a Life Service award from SBU. Her passion for learning and nurturing students profoundly impacted countless lives.
Grace resided in Bolivar, Missouri, where she became a cherished member of the community, known for her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering spirit.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents Arnie and Mayme Bell (Kirby) Cobb; her husband of 54 years Jesse James Pursley; seven siblings: Bob, Bill, Gerald, Murl, Earl Cobb, Viven Anderson, and brother Johnny Cobb died 8 hours following Grace’s passing.
She will be lovingly remembered by her sister Alice Cobb Wisdom; many nieces, nephews, including Steve Pursley, Dan Wisdom (Paula); as well as other relatives and friends, who will carry her legacy forward.
Family and friends are invited to join in a celebration of Grace’s life. A visitation will be held on Friday, June 13, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Pitts Chapel, followed by a heartfelt funeral service at 11:00 AM with Rev. Rex Warren officiating. Immediately after the service, we will gather for a graveside service at Greenwood Cemetery.
In keeping with Grace’s loving spirit, her family encourages all who knew her to come together to share joyful memories and honor a life well-lived. Grace Pursley’s light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who loved her.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Grace may consider contributing to a local education charity, a cause that was always close to her heart. Online condolences may be made at: www.greenlawnfuneralhome.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to Pitts Chapel Bolivar, MO.
May her soul rest in peace, and may we celebrate her life with the joy and love she so freely gave to us all.
