Barbara, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2025, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of 91. Born on October 27, 1933, in Belleville, Kansas. Barbara lived a life grounded in deep faith, steady love, and quiet strength.
Barbara and Ray loved to go crappie fishing on Truman and Stockton lakes. She also loved to go to antique auctions and had a nice collection of old fruit jars and collectible pottery. They traveled to several states buying items to fill their many flea market booths.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ray Gene Payne; her son, Martin Dean; her parents; her sisters; and her brother. Despite these losses, Barbara remained a pillar of strength and grace, never wavering in her care for others.
She is survived by her two sons, Richard Beecher Payne and Michael Gene Payne; five grandchildren—DeLayna Payne Simpson, Dorianne Payne May, Damian Payne, Desiree Payne Vernoy, and Heather Payne Fraker; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Barbara was deeply devoted to her faith and attended church twice a week until her final days. Her life was a reflection of her beliefs, marked by compassion, humility, and quiet service to others. She built a legacy not through recognition, but through love, devotion, and the lives she touched across five generations.
A service will be held for close family, friends, and church members. Services are provided by Greenlawn Funeral Home North.
