Gregory Mark Mingus, age 62, of Springfield, Missouri, known to friends and family as Mark, passed away on August 8, 2025, at Mercy Hospital surrounded by his mother, siblings, and a niece and nephew in Springfield. Gregory was born to Robert Mingus and Lorena (Crawford) Mingus on June 20, 1963, at Burge hospital in Springfield, MO.
Mark, at age 12, was saved and Baptized at High Street Baptist Church in Springfield, Missouri. Mark spent his life around Springfield attending Central High School where he evolved with choir, and drama. He won an award for best supporting actor, playing Stinky in Mrs. McThing.
Mark was a song leader at Westport Baptist Church at a young age there. He sang and wrote the piano music to songs his friend Kelly would write. Many evenings and holidays were spent singing around the piano. Music was a huge part of Mark’s life. With a collection spanning across many genres.
At age 19 Mark started his work career at Zenith TV Plant. He worked there for 11 ½ Years until they closed the plant. He then worked at JCPenney for 26 years.
Mark had many coworkers he called friends, and even had a work wife, Linda Day. Mark was known for his strong work ethic and talent for building displays.
Mark suffered a stroke while working in 2019. Fast acting co-workers saved his life. The stroke caused him to retire. Mark faced all of his new challenges with stride and strength, never complaining.
Mark enjoyed movies, TV, cooking, trivia, and debating. He had great empathy for others, giving them a voice when he felt it necessary.
Mark spent the last 6 weeks of his life in the hospital. He woke up confused one night imagining he was someone famous. Looking at all his special Momentums, Mark was a famously loved friend. Mark had special people throughout his life. Footprints engraved in his heart.
Mark was preceded in death by his father, Robert Mingus, stepdad Donald Wood. Grandparents John and Jo Avis Mingus, Clyde and Eva Crawford, niece Carly JoyAnna Porter, 3 uncles, and 3 aunts. He is survived by his mother Lorena Wood; Brothers Mike Mingus and Marty (Maria)Mingus, sister Marissa (Harold) Boston; Sister in law Patti Mingus, nephews Cory Mingus; Travis Mingus; Dalton (Tiffany) Bunch; Josiah Mingus nieces Krys (Tim) Porter; Mandy Bunch; Sara (Jake) Wilson; Alyssa Mingus; 6 great nephews, and 5 great nieces
A visitation for Gregory will be held on Wednesday, 13th of August 2025, 6:00-8:00 PM, at Greenlawn Funeral Home North in Springfield, Missouri. The funeral service for Gregory will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Greenlawn Funeral Home North with a burial to follow at Danforth Cemetery in Stafford, with dinner following at Glenstone Baptist Church, Springfield, MO.
