It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Gary Wayne Barbee, who departed this life on November 4, 2025, at the age of 71. Gary was born on September 24, 1954, in Farmington, Missouri to Lester and Norma Jean Barbee, and he lived a life that was rich in both professional achievements and personal connections.
Gary graduated from Valley High School in Caledonia, Missouri in 1972 then went on to attend the University of Arkansas where he graduated with a bachelor’s in architecture.
On December 21, 1974, Gary was united in marriage to Lily (Wells) Barbee and to this union one daughter was born.
An accomplished architect, Gary dedicated his career to Sam Winn and Associates, where he displayed an unwavering commitment to his craft and contributed significantly to the architectural landscape. His passion for design and innovation will be remembered by colleagues and clients alike.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Norma Jean Barbee; wife, Lily Barbee; sister-in-law, Lorrie Merrill; and mother and father-in-law, Harvey and Barbara Wells.
Gary is survived by his cherished daughter, Amy Burks (Shawn); grandson, Kensen Burks; brother, Terry (Carla) Barbee; sister, Janice (Aaron) Brewer; uncle, Delmar Elders; aunt and uncle Jeannie and Darell Cole; sister-in-law, Connie Sheldon; two brothers-in-law, Mark Merrill, Dennis Wells; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
He enjoyed camping, being on the lake, traveling all over to watch his grandson Kensen play sports and looked forward to lunches with Joe and dinners with Norman and Cindy.
Gary will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

A visitation will be held Saturday, November 15, 2025 from 12:00 to 2:00 pm in Greenlawn Funeral Home East.
