Dorothy Williams McElveen, age 82, of Springfield, MO, passed away on February 3, 2026, at Springfield Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. Dorothy was born to Homer Williams and Dorothy (Baldwin) Williams on December 10, 1943, in Springfield. She was raised in Springfield and graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1961. Dorothy was united in marriage to Marvin McElveen on November 4, 1963, in Springfield. Marvin and Dorothy shared nearly 42 years of marriage before Marvin’s passing in 2004. The couple were blessed with four children: Linda Henson and Mark Fiedtkou of Bartlesville, OK; Carla McElveen of Springfield; Randy and Deanna McElveen of Mt. Vernon, MO; Danny and Jan McElveen of Springfield.
Dorothy was employed as an Administrative Assistant with Springfield Public Schools for 33 years. After retiring she enjoyed traveling. Her favorite destinations were Destin, Florida and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. After Marvin’s passing, Dorothy met her friend Ed Gentry and they enjoyed traveling the country in their RV for several years. Dorothy loved her family very much and enjoyed seeing them at every opportunity.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Dorothy Williams; brothers Charles Williams, Bill Williams, Donald Williams, and Jack Williams. Dorothy is survived by her four children, seven grandchildren: Rachel, Kayleigh, Amelia, Anthony, Lindsey, Candi, and Bradley; and one great-grandson, Eldon. She’s also survived by her sister Janet Garoutte.
The family would like to deeply thank the staff of Springfield Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center for their loving support and care for mom. They treated her with dignity, respect and love as if she was a member of their own family.
Visitation will take place from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 8, 2026. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 9, 2026 at Greenlawn Funeral Home North, with burial following in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
