Nell Chopski, 89, died April 17, 2026. There will be a graveside service at New Hope Cemetery, Peace Valley, MO. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Greenlawn Funeral Home North, Springfield, MO. Phoenix Hospice Chaplain James Thomas officiating. Songs “HOW GREAT THOU ARE,” and “I’LL FLY AWAY” will be performed by Greg & Angie Worley (Senior Pastors, His Place Church.)
Nell was born at Peace Valley, MO, on January 12, 1937 to the late Thurlow Green and Mae Murray.
She was united in marriage to Don L. Chopski on Nov 1, 1957 at West Plains, MO. She is survived by husband Don Chopski and two sons, Charles Russell and Guy Chopski and three grandchildren.
Nell is preceded in death by infant son Darrell Vic Chopski. Brother Kenneth Green and sisters Judy Lawson and Dorthy Burgess and grandson Chase Russell.
Nell was a retired public school teacher in Missouri. She is considered a Pioneer in Education because she started teaching school before she recieved her degree. She taught school at Glenwood in West Plains, MO, also at Mountain View and Seymour School also in Missouri.
She was an Alumna of S.M.S.U now called Missouri State and received her Masters Degree at Drury College (University). She taught English as a second language to German nurses at the hospital in Mountain View, MO.
At a very young age Nell became a Christian and taught Sunday school classes at various churches in West Plains and in Springfield, MO. She was of the General and Free Will Baptist faith.
She enjoyed traveling on Sunnyland Tours and Marsh Travel in Springfield. Her favorite vacation trip was to Banff, Canada to see the glaciers and ice fields.
In later life, Nell was fascinated with foreign languages. She took Spanish classes and learned sign language to communicate with the deaf. She studied the Old Hebrew language from the Old Testament and during Covid she taught herself to read any book in the braille language. Her favorite braille book was from the New Testament, St. John. Nell’s favorite verse in the bible was John 3:16.
