Mary Joyce Byrd, 73, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2026, at 3:18 p.m., surrounded by the love of her family. Born on December 27, 1952, in Pasadena, Texas, Mary was the daughter of Robert “Red” Jacobs and Achma “Momma” Jacobs. She grew up in Houston, Texas, where her strong sense of family, loyalty, and warmth first took root.
Mary married the love of her life, Rick Byrd, in 1974, and together they built a life centered on devotion, laughter, and unwavering support for one another. A homemaker throughout her life, Mary poured her heart into creating a home that was welcoming, joyful, and full of the small comforts that made people feel cared for.
She loved deeply and wholeheartedly. Her greatest joy was her family — her husband, children, and grandchildren, who were the center of her world. Mary also had a special place in her heart for her dogs, who were constant companions and sources of comfort.
Mary embraced the simple pleasures that made life sweet: trips to the lake, Branson shows, Chicago TV night, Diet Dr Pepper, Whataburger, and any excuse to go shopping. She had a gift for turning everyday moments into memories, and her presence made every gathering brighter.
Mary is survived by her husband, Rick Byrd; her son Aaron Byrd and daughter‑in‑law Mallory Byrd, and their children Tennyson and Avalyn; her daughter Melanie Riggs and son‑in‑law Daniel Riggs, and their son Rayse. She is also survived by many friends who loved her like family.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert “Red” Jacobs; her mother, Achma “Momma” Jacobs; and her brother, Michael Jacobs.
A local visitation will be held in Springfield, Missouri, on May 19 from 5–7 p.m. at Greenlawn North Funeral Home on North National. A funeral service will follow on May 26 at Sterling‑White Funeral Home in Crosby, Texas, where Mary will be honored and laid to rest near her Texas roots.
