Darlene Novelle Messer, age 97, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away on August 15, 2026, at her home with her family at her side. Darlene was born to Vernon Simmons and Oma Simmons on August 14, 1929 in Hedley, TX. She was raised in Dimmit, TX and graduated from Dimmit High School. Darlene was united in marriage to Delbert Messer and enjoyed over 40 years of marriage. Darlene was blessed with 5 children.

Darlene was self-employed as a beautician for 40 years.  When not working, she enjoyed spending time at the lake, family outings and shopping.

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Delbert Messer; son, John Miller and two sisters, Dorothy Shanks and Mona Kirby. She is survived by her daughter Pamela Snider; son Joseph Miller (Agnes); daughter Mona Asher (David); daughter Tina Ginger (Wayne), eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.  She is also, survived by her beloved stepchildren, Linda, Anita, Bob and several nieces and nephews.

A Graveside service for Darlene will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, August 21, 2026 at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, MO.  Arrangements are under the direction of Greenlawn Funeral Home South.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in Darlene’s memory to The American Cancer Society.
