Richard Reed Lindsey, departed this life on October 8, 2026, at the age of 82 surrounded by his family. He was born on September 24, 1944, in Willard, Missouri. Richard was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, whose legacy of love, service, and community will forever be remembered.
Richard dedicated 28 years of his life to the Springfield Fire Department. He was a proud firefighter, and was recognized with the Firefighter of the Year award in 1999. His contributions extended beyond his profession, as he spent over six decades as a devoted member of Hamlin Baptist Church and served as a deacon for many years.
An avid golfer, Richard enjoyed countless rounds of golf and was a member for many years at Greene Hills Country Club. He celebrated the thrill of achieving four hole-in-ones throughout his golfing career. He also shared a deep passion for collecting Coca-Cola memorabilia and took pride in his classic ’66 Mustang.
Above all, Richard was a family man who adored his wife, Sandy, with whom he shared a beautiful life for 61 years. He was a proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Reed and Lenora Lindsey, his sisters, Betty June Peck and Patricia Hancock. He is survived by his wife Sandy, daughter Stephanie Samsel (Kevin), granddaughters Devin Samsel (Hank) and Lindsey Garner (Christian), Grandsons Isac Lindsey and Caleb Lindsey. Great Grandchildren Peyton, Mckinlee, Christopher, Lennon and Cameron, sisters Norma Hughes, Nancy Randles and brother George Lindsey (Brenda) and a host of nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 11, 2026, at Hamlin Baptist Church (1942 W Farm Rd 102 Springfield, Mo). Funeral services will be held at Hamlin Baptist Church, at 1:00 p.m., on Monday, October 12, 2026. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Willard, Missouri.
