Royal Gilbert Thurman (Gil)
Gilbert was born to Royal and Eva (Best) Thurman, September 5, 1935. Died January 18, 2020. Gilbert was 84 years old. He has been a member pf the Assembly of God Church throughout his life. During the last days of his life he received his spiritual care through The Seymour Nazarene Church ministers and Chaplain pastoral care of Preferred Hospice.
Gilbert has been preceded in death by his parents Royal and Eva Thurman, 6 siblings, one daughter Sherry, and an adopted son Vernon Barton. He is survived by his wife Susan Kim Thurman with 25 years of marriage, 6 children; Dean Thurman of Pleasant Hope, Mo., Mike Thurman or Highlandville, Mo., Sheila Baumgartner of Marshfield, Mo., Randy Thurman and wife Jeannie of Pleasant Hope, Mo., Sandy Richardson of Pleasant Hope, Mo., and Cindy Cook of Springfield Mo. He had 3 stepchildren, Christie Bilbo of Oregon, Mary McQueen and husband Jarod of Springfield Mo., and Kenneth Booth, Jr. and wife Meagan of Fordland, Mo. There are multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren.
During his final days, Gilbert was cared for in the home by his wife Susan who is a Registered Nurse, Stepson Kenneth Booth, Jr., Meagan Booth, and grandson Christian Hunter Booth. He was blessed daily by the Booth children and developed a special relationship with Emeri Booth, 2 years old who sang to him daily. Care was guided and overseen by Preferred Hospice; Dr. Dohlberg, Nurse Practioner Janna, Lead Nurse Teresa RN, and Nurse Aids Brooke and Amy. Natalie RN was serving when he passed.
Gil was the past owner of Southwest Missouri Medical Transit in Bolivar Mo. from which he retired in 1990’s. He was a devout Christian, witnessing for the Lord Jesus Christ. Gilbert will be missed extensively by his family and friends.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 23, 2020 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Services will be January 24, 2020 1:00pm at Greenlawn North Funeral Home, Springfield, Mo. Burial will be at Robberson Prairie Cemetery, Springfield, Mo. Officiating Funeral Service will be: Pastor Karlstromer, Seymour Nazarene Church and Chaplin Bill Longenecker, Preferred Hospice
