Allyn “Beryl” Cowan, 87, Of Bolivar, Missouri, passed away on November 25, 2024, at CMH Hospital in Bolivar, Missouri, surrounded by family. Beryl was born on August 19, 1937, in Balko, Oklahoma to Lloyd and Ola Cowan. He graduated from Balko High School. Beryl married Kathy McCurdy on December 23, 1977, enjoying 46 years of marriage.
Beryl moved from Oklahoma to Missouri to pursue hog and cattle farming in Christian County. He worked at Dayco retiring after 31 years. He and Kathy enjoyed trips to Branson to watch the shows. Every December he made sure she got a flower arrangement of their wedding flowers red roses and daisies; a rose for every year they were married. In retirement, Beryl was an avid golfer challenging his grandchildren to earn $100 to beat him in a round. Every Saturday, you could find him at the sale barn with his kids and grandkids in tow. He could turn a five-minute answer into an hour-long history lesson with little wisdom nuggets.
Beryl is preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, May Beth Schill; his brothers: Everett, Dude, William, Fred, and Steve Cowan.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Cowan; his children: Lana Hittle, Tim Cowan, Rod Cowan, Tina Smythe, and Diane Cook; his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and a multitude of other family and friends.
A graveside service for Beryl will take place on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at Slagle Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Pitts Chapel of Bolivar.
