Arthur (Art) Lee Petty, Sr. age 84 of Springfield, MO went home to be with Jesus on June 27, 2021. He was born on October 4, 1936 in St. Louis, MO to Jessie and Herbert Petty.
Art graduated from Mexico High School (Mexico, MO) and then attended Rolla School of Mines, Rolla, MO. He spent 6 years as a member of XI United States Army Corp, C Battery, 4th Howitzer Battalion, 84th Artillery, and was honorably discharged April 1, 1963. He worked and retired from Tindle Mills as the Director of Corporate Services with over 30 years of service. After retirement, he worked 10 years at O’Reilly.
Art was an obedient follower of God and showed God’s love to everyone he met. He was a member of Westside Christian Church in Columbia, MO, and then Glendale Christian Church in Springfield, MO. He served as an Elder and Treasurer of the Church for many of these years. Art’s greatest love after God was his wife and family.
He donated over 55 gallons of blood, as well as many gallons of platelets through the years. He enjoyed square dancing and that’s where he met his wife Dee, whom he married November 28, 1997; he also enjoyed traveling, reading, and anything to do with getting together with his family.
Art was preceded in death by his parents (Herbert & Jessie), Sister (Mariann Lowry), Brother-in-law (Hugh Lowry), Brother-in-law (Gerald Whistance) and Mother-in-law (Bernyce Whistance) He is survived by his wife Dee Petty of the home, his children Lee (Angela) Petty of Kansas City, MO, Lenita (Brent) Davision of Lebanon, MO, Cynthia (John) Bradley of Springfield, MO, Clinton (Sharon) Petty of Willard, MO, Chris (Abby) Buckner of Ozark, MO, Nikki (Joe) Chitwood of Ozark, MO; 13 Grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren.
The Celebration of Life service will be held at Glendale Christian Church, 2110 S. Blackman Rd, Springfield, MO on July 9, 2021 at 1:30 pm, preceded by the visitation from 12 – 1:30 pm., with burial at Wagoner Cemetery in Stockton, MO. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Christian Campus House at MSU, 616 E. Bear Blvd, Springfield, MO 65806, Ozarks Food Harvest, or Crosslines of Springfield.
