Barbara June Wallace, 88, of Springfield Missouri passed away at her home on December 3, 2024. Barbara was born in Memphis, TN, April 21, 1936 to Dorothy Mae Wallace and James Andrew Wallace.
Barbara “June” was a compassionate and vibrant soul. She connected with people effortlessly, offering kindness and genuine interest in every situation. Always eager to make new friends, she loved sharing stories and experiences. Above all, she treasured her family, and spending time with them was what fueled her every day. Fiercely independent, she took pride in handling her own errands and, most recently, drove herself to vote in the presidential election, fulfilling her civic duty. Faith, family, and fun were at the heart of everything she believed in. Her laughter was infectious, the kind that made you smile from within. Family gatherings brought her the greatest joy, especially when she made her famous Thanksgiving dressing, always saying, “I can’t tell you how I make it, just taste it.” June enjoyed traveling, shopping, and listening to music, including a memorable Bruno Mars concert that she adored. She had a gift for recognizing others’ talents and was always quick to offer a sincere compliment.
Barbara June was preceded in death by her precious mother, Dorothy Wallace; father, James Wallace; sisters, Charlotte Wallace and Lawana Wallace Jacobi; and grandson, John Christian Hashagen. She is survived by her sister, Marilyn Wallace Wren; her beloved daughters, Debra Stevens, Melodye Shaffner, and Christi Hashagen; grandchildren, Eric Stevens, Mackenzi Shaffner, Paxton Shaffner, Spencer Hashagen, and Alexa Hashagen; great-grandson, David Stevens; and great-great-grandchildren, Kasen and Kora Stevens.
A private memorial celebration of life will take place in January, celebrating her life and legacy with family and a good meal.
