Betty Ann Steele, born on June 10, 1946, passed peacefully into eternity late Wednesday evening, February 19, 2025, with her brother Bob and nephew Josh Steele at her side. Betty was born in Springfield, Missouri, to Vesta Joan (Shipman) and WWII veteran, Homer Ray Steele, the first of their five children and raised in Pleasant Hope on her family’s heritage farm.
Betty was preceded in death by her father Homer Steele in 2015. She is survived by her mother, Vesta Joan Steele; four siblings: Karen and husband Bill Weigt, Davis, California, Linda and husband David Hough, Springfield, Bobby Steele and wife Robin, Springfield, Becky and husband Dennis Bledsoe, Pleasant Hope; twelve nieces and nephews; and twenty-three great nieces and nephews.
Betty was a member of Pleasant Hope Fundamental Baptist Church. She attended Pleasant View Elementary School and Pleasant Hope High School. She worked at the Springfield Workshop for 25 years, where she found fulfilment and took pride in creating unique products for local retailers and enjoyed the comradery of her coworkers and supervisors. Betty was kind-hearted and enjoyed making friends. She had an uncanny ability to remember her friends’ and families’ birthdays and liked to keep them informed on current events.
Services to honor Betty Ann Steele will be held on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, 3:00 p.m., at Greenlawn North Funeral Home in Springfield. Betty will be laid to rest at New Hope Cemetery in northern Greene County.
