Betty Jean Oatman
Betty Jean was born on December 28, 1931, in Victoria, Missouri. Betty was the middle child of 8 siblings, of which the first born, Charles, passed away at the age of 3 months of pneumonia. On July 30, 1950, Betty Jean Urfer and Virgil Von Oatman, Jr., were married in DeSoto, Missouri. Betty and Virgil had three daughters, Jeanne Weatherman, Debbie Allen, Becky Raney. They moved to Pleasant Hope on May 28, 1959. Betty loved her church and volunteered to help whenever the opportunity arose. Every year when the teachers had their three days of meetings and getting their rooms in order, their favorite thing was the Methodist Ladies Luncheon. She was a home room mother while the girls were in school. Betty enjoyed decorating cakes, sewing, raising a garden, and preserving the produce for her family. Betty enjoyed spending time with her family.
A celebration of Betty’s life will be held on Sunday, December 3, 2023 beginning at 2:00 pm at New Beginning Family Church in Pleasant Hope, Missouri.
