Billy Bert Redus, 94, Marionville, Mo. passed peacefully Saturday, November 13, 2021 at the Missouri Veteran’s Home in Mt. Vernon, Missouri. The son of Onel and Ona(Engelton) Redus, Bill was born December 17, 1926 in Doniphan, Missouri. Bill was a graduate of Doniphan High School. After graduating from high school in 1944, Bill joined the United States Navy. Upon completion of his basic training, he served on the USS Hoist in the South Pacific until the end of World War II. Bill was United in marriage to Betty Sue Moore on February 8, 1948 in Harrison, Arkansas, and two children were born to this union, Billy Ray and Jill Sue.
Bill graduated from Arkansas Tech in Russellville, Ar. with a teaching degree in 1952. He taught at Grandin, Fair Play, and Midway (all in Missouri) before heading off to the University of Missouri, where he earned two Master’s Degrees in 1958. In 1958 he was hired as the high school principal at Marionville, Missouri, where he remained until his retirement in 1985. Bill was an avid fisherman and quail hunter and enjoyed many trips to Canada and his cabin on the James River.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Jack Redus; and his wife of 52 years, Betty Sue. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Ed Joy of Springfield; his son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Shirley Redus of Crane; a granddaughter, Summer Joy of Springfield; a grandson, Bill Alan Redus and his wife Amy of Marionville; three great-grandsons, Billy Blane, Myatt Redus, and Jake Alan Redus all of Marionville and Caedin Joy of Springfield; and Bill’s sister Betty Ruth Price of Elkton, Kentucky. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and seven “adopted” great-grandchildren who loved him dearly.
Mr. Redus as many who are reading this addressed him in the past, was a proud resident of Marionville for many years and was humbled when Marionville R-IX School District named the football field in his honor. In lieu of flowers, the family would request donations to the Marionville R-IX Schools, 200 W Odell, Marionville, MO 65633 earmarked for upkeep of Bill Redus Field.
Services will be 1:00 pm, Thursday, November 18, at Missouri Veterans Cemetery, 5201 S Southwood, Springfield, MO. Arrangements are under the care of Greenlawn Funeral Home South, Springfield, MO.
