Mr. Billy Gene Smith, age 91, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2026. He was born on December 27, 1934, in Redtop, Missouri, to Marvin and Olive Pinegar Smith.
Billy was the only son among four children and shared a lifelong bond with his three sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Olive Smith, and his sisters, Erma Lee Krider, Deanna Walton, and Barbara Bruton, who passed just ten days before him.
On April 19, 1959, Billy married the love of his life, Glenda Chaney. Together, they built a strong and devoted marriage that spanned nearly 67 years. From this union, they were blessed with two daughters, Geri and Vicki, who were the pride and joy of his life.
Billy worked for many years as a heavy equipment operator for the City of Springfield, where he was known for his dedication and strong work ethic. Outside of work, he had a true passion for machinery and could often be found working on his beloved 8N tractor or tinkering with anything that had a motor. He especially enjoyed “piddling” in his garage, where he was happiest fixing, building, and creating.
A man of faith, Billy attended Billings First Baptist Church. He lived a simple, steady life centered on his family, his work, and the things he loved most.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Glenda Smith; his daughters, Geri and husband Jody Hunt, and Vicki and husband Jim Spivy; his grandson, Jeremy Spivy and wife Macie; along with several nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will cherish his memory.
Visitation will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at Greenlawn Funeral Home North, with the funeral service beginning at 3:00 p.m. Graveside services will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
Billy will be remembered for his quiet strength, his love for his family, and his gift for working with his hands. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
