Billy H. Anderson, age 94, Springfield, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at Mercy Hospital.
Bill was born March 7, 1929 in Antlers, Oklahoma and is preceded in death by his parents Gene and Stella Anderson. Bill met his lifelong partner, Betty, when he was 21 and she was 16 and they married May 15, 1950. They were married almost 58 years when Betty passed away. Bill stated, “Well I got her for 58 years…that’s pretty good.”
During their first year of marriage, Bill served in the United States Marine Corps and was stationed in Korea until 1953. He was wounded in war and received the Purple Heart Medal of Honor.
Bill loved his family and spending time fishing, coaching his sons’ baseball teams and had a love for all sports…especially the St. Louis Cardinals. He was a Cardinals Fan in the good and the bad.
He worked in the propane gas business for many years and retired at EmpireGas of Fair Grove, Missouri. After retirement, he and Betty spent time fishing, traveling and volunteering hours and hours helping the children and their families with Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Bill was also known for his incredible sense of humor and his quiet comfort. He left an impression on everyone he met and he left that attribute behind in his family.
In addition to his parents, siblings and his sweet wife, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Jessica Oetting.
Survivors include his son, Steve Anderson and wife, Christie of Strafford; son, David Anderson and wife, Carol of Springfield; daughter, Nancy Hutson and husband, Scott of Webb City along with a special adopted son, Alan Oetting of Flemington, 6 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and one brother, Bobby Anderson and wife, Evelyn of Springfield.
Services will be held on Tuesday, June 13 at Greenlawn Funeral Home North, Springfield, Missouri with visitation from 10-11:00 a.m., service at 11:00 a.m., followed by the burial at Greenlawn Cemetery. Steve Anderson, David Anderson, Alan Oetting, Scott Hutson, Matthew Anderson and Chad Williams serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Evan Anderson and Andrew Turner. Officiating the service is Chaplain Nancy Hutson.
