With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Bob Jewell, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He passed away on June 21, 2024, in Springfield, MO. He was born Bobby Eugene Jewell to Eddie and Anna (Rubemyer) Jewell on December 6, 1938, in Louisiana, MO. He joined the family as the sixth child of seven born to the Jewell Family. He was part of the graduating class of 1958 from LaClaire High School in LaClaire, Iowa.
Bob enlisted into the United States Army in June of 1958 where he served his country with honor, achieving the rank of SP4 E-4 before his discharge in 1961. His dedication to his military service was a testament to his commitment to duty and integrity. Bob was also a devoted construction laborer, dedicated to his work for the Local Union 663 for 30 years. His skill and integrity earned him the respect of clients and coworkers. On April 20, 1973, he was united in marriage to Ella Rose Baldwin. They devoted 45 years dedicated to their love before her untimely passing on August 3, 2018.
Bob’s kindness and compassion touched the lives of all who knew him. He took joy in the simple things in life, cherishing moments, watching the local wildlife and keeping up with the news. His generous spirit extended to his involvement with various charities that support children, a cause that was close to his heart.
He was met in heaven by his parents, his wife, Ella; and five siblings: Viola Hubbard, Vernie Jewell, Harry Jewell, Raymond Jewell, and Peggy Malette.
Bob is survived by his children Leroy Irwin and Wilbur Irwin, as well as several grandchildren, including Nicole and Danny Stidham, Samantha and Corey Amos, Erica and Ryan Elwood, and Austin Irwin, a sister Abba Duett, and many other cherished family members and friends. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
A visitation will take place on Thursday, June 27, 2024, beginning at 10:00 am, in Greenlawn Funeral Home, North followed by a graveside service at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens at 11:00 am with full military honors.
As we celebrate Bob’s life, we remember his gentle nature, caring heart, and unwavering compassion. He leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will be forever cherished. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
Services are under the direction of Greenlawn Funeral Home, North. Fond memories and condolences may be left on this site. The family suggest memorial contributions be made to Children’s Miracle Network or to Humane Society of Southwest Missouri in memory of Bob Jewell.
