In the early hours of June 2, 2024, Bobby Gene (Bob) Stockstill passed peaceably from this life into eternity where the ravages of age no longer apply. Bob was in his family home of over 70 years at the time of his passing.
Bob was born on November 25, 1930 in Springfield, Missouri to Arley and Elma Stockstill. He graduated from Springfield High (now Central High) and served in the army airborne as a paratrooper during the Korean conflict. Following his military service, he worked as bricklayer and as a job foreman for several construction companies building school buildings and commercial structures in many towns and communities in southwest Missouri. His attention to his trade earned him recognition by his fellow bricklayers, by the union, and by others in the construction community. Bob was the recipient of the prestigious Springfield Architects Craftsman of the Year award in 1976.
Bob married Betty in a simple ceremony and they recently celebrated 70 years of marriage.
They raised three sons and one daughter in the white house they made a home.
Bob and Betty are lifelong members of what is now Watermill church of Christ. Bob served in a number of roles of ministry during his lifetime but is perhaps best remembered for his ministry in caring for those in need. Bob contributed his time, skill, and energy in construction at both Fair Haven and Happy Hollow Bible Camp.
Bob was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing. Following his retirement, he focused more on fishing even keeping records to assist him. His hobby has provided the fish for numerous fish fries.
Bob is survived by his wife, Betty; four children and their spouses, Daniel and Cindee, John and Sue, Jeanne and Wayne, and Tim and Martaun; a sister, Frankie, and a brother James; a brother-in-law, Jim (Mary); grandchildren, Daisha, Claudia (Ryan), Brandon, Stephanie (Tyler), Jessica (Michael), Amanda (Joel), Johnathan, Michelle (Andy), Candace, Aubrey (Justin), and Elaina; great-grandchildren, Gideon, Naomi, Kaden, Elijah, Dexter, Rory, Jude, Adelynn, Ruby, Reese, Cameron, Bradley, and Baylor; and a number of nephews and nieces.
The family will have a private graveside service but would invite any who would like to attend his celebration of life which will be held at 2:30 PM, June 10, 2024 at the Watermill Church of Christ.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either Fairhaven Children Home or Happy Hollow Bible Camp.
