Bonnie (Mefford) Collins, 96 years old from Nixa, Missouri passed away peacefully on January 14, 2025. Bonnie was the oldest child of her parents, Verdon Mefford and Delphia (Hash) Mefford. Her father (Verdon) had three children from a previous marriage, Bonnie’s siblings from Verdon & Delphia, (listed by age), Roselle, Bill, Boots, Barbara, Bob, Jimmy, Myrtle, Lester and Chester. Bonnie helped deliver Chester at her parent’s home and named him after her husband (Lloyd Chester Collins).
She was born in Isabella, Missouri, on June 7, 1928, but the family soon moved to Broken Arrow, OK, and that’s where she was raised. According to her birth certificate she was delivered by a midwife. She worked in the fields picking cotton and picking pecans to make money for Christmas. Bonnie left home at 13 and moved in with her older half sibling brother Conley and his wife Evie in Broken Arrow, and went to work in a restaurant, washing dishes and cleaning tables. Bonnie married Lloyd Chester Collins Sr., from Maulden, Missouri on October 27, 1944, at the age of 16.
After Bonnie married, she went to work in Sand Springs, OK, in a factory making uniforms for the military. Bonnie is survived in death by 5 children( listed by age) Constance, Judy, Carol, Lloyd Jr. and Patrick. A daughter-in-law Donna (Lloyd), a son-in-law, Larry (Constance) and 6 grandchildren by age, JoAnn, Anthony Jr. John Jr, Larry Jr, Michael and Laurie.
Bonnie has 14 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Lloyd Chester Collins Sr, a son, Carl Lloyd Collins and two great-grandchildren, Madaline and Nicholas.
She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.
