On October 1, 2023, Brian Philip Wise entered heaven walking, and leaping, and praising God. He was a devoted husband, proud father, beloved son, obnoxious older brother, and friend to everyone he met.
Brian was born in Belle Plaine, Iowa, on July 4, 1961, to Cal and Linda Wise. He spent his childhood in various cities in Iowa, Kansas, and Missouri. After recovering from a traumatic brain injury (TBI) during his senior year of high school, he was able to graduate a year later from Jefferson City High School. Despite difficulties with long-term memory due to his TBI, Brian graduated from Ball State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Music and from Purdue University (IUPUI campus) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering Technology.
In 1986, he first met the love of his life, Romilda, in a physics class at IUPUI. He later reconnected with her when he was having car trouble in the university parking lot and needed a jump start. After two years of dating, and graduating from IUPUI, they married on December 2, 1989.
Despite his disabilities and worsening mobility, Brian displayed courage and determination in the face of adversity. He never let his limitations quench his optimism. He was filled with joy from his Lord, and he let that joy overflow to everyone who crossed his path. He was always ready to greet them with a smile and an eye-rolling dad joke.
Brian was a talented musician who enjoyed playing clarinet with the Republic Community Band. Other pastimes included listening to talk radio, increasing his joke repertoire with the help of Alexa, watching Jeopardy, and playing games on Facebook.
Brian also possessed a generous spirit and sought to give of himself wherever he could. He gave his time assisting with security for the evening MOPs program at his church and serving on the executive committee for Boy Scout Troop 111. Because of his generous spirit, he was an avid blood donor to the Community Blood Center of the Ozarks, donating 359 times. His generosity continued after his death as an organ and tissue donor for Mid-American Transplant.
Brian is survived by his wife Romilda, his daughter Emily Wise, his son Aaron Wise, his parents Cal and Linda Wise, his brother Doug Wise and wife Pam, his sister Sarah Bullock and husband Mike, and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at 6:00 pm on Thursday, October 5, 2023, at Greenlawn Funeral Home East.
