Buford Allen Cross, 80, of Buffalo, Missouri, passed away at Cox Medical Center South in Springfield, Missouri, on September 25, 2024. Buford was born on August 9, 1944, in Springfield, Missouri, to Buford Cross and Betty (Mitchell) Cross. Buford’s dad was killed in WWII and he was raised by his mom and stepdad, Bill Stokes. Buford attended Pleasant Hope schools. After school, he went to work for Cardwell Manufacturing in Wichita, then a feed lot west of Wichita, Kansas. Buford worked for Missouri Neon for nine years, eleven years at Payne Neon, and then he started his own company: Cross 80 Sign Service. He operated Cross 80 for 7 years. Buford retired from McGregor hardware after working there as a truck driver. He enjoyed his mule, Hillary, and working with his horses. He loved coon hunting and his many coonhounds over the years. Buford thought the world of his grandkids. Buford met Judy over a cigar, and they married August 9, 1980.
Buford is survived by his wife Judy; his daughter, Milissa Allen Dillard; his sons, Buford Allen Cross and Jason Wallace Allen Cross; his grandchildren: Dalton Cross, Katelynn Danzer, Tristin Landwehr, and Garrett Cross; one great-grandson, Cassian Eugene Landwehr; his siblings: Dan Stokes, Judy Fergerson, and his baby brother, Tim Stokes, and many cousins, family, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his dad, Buford Wallace Cross; his mom and stepdad, Betty Stokes and Bill Stokes, and his brother, Jimmy Stokes.
A visitation for Buford will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Pitts Chapel in Bolivar. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, September 29, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Pitts Chapel. Interment will follow at Brighton Cemetery in Brighton, Missouri.
