Calvin Leon Whitworth Sr. passed away in the presence of his family on June 7, 2014. He was preceded in death by both of his parents Leon and Florence Whitworth and his oldest daughter Leah Joanne Whitworth McLeish, and one great-granddaughter Brooklyn Sadie Morrison.
During his lifetime Calvin was married twice, first to Virginia Christine Christian, to this union three sons were born, Larry Eugene Whitworth, Jerry Lee Whitworth and Calvin Leon Whitworth Jr. Then on March 5, 1963 Calvin married his loving wife of 51 years, Mary Glenda Patterson Whitworth from Vian, OK and to this union two daughters were born Leah Joanne Whitworth-McLeish who was mentioned above and his daughter Barbara Evelyn Whitworth-Williams.
Calvin leaves behind his loving wife of 51 years Mary Glenda Whitworth, his daughter Barbara Evelyn Whitworth-Willams and family, and Larry Eugene Whitworth Sr. and family, Jerry Lee Whitworth Sr. and family and Calvin Leon Whitworth Jr. and family. Calvin also leaves behind two sisters, Dorothy Lorene and family and Mary Kathlene. Calvin also leaves behind 17 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and 6 great-greatgrandchildren and many nieces and nephews and many, many friends & others who were loved by him as well.
Calvin worked as deputy sheriff in Sallisaw, OK in his early years after which he found and exciting job driving the tour bus for Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys, he always said “They are a rowdy bunch”. From there he decided to move on to bigger and better things, so he went to work for Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, KS as a Aeronautical Engineer and helped build the Boeing 747. From here he decided to move to Denver, CO, so he started working for Feld Truck Leasing which then became Gelco Truck Leasing and from there he retired in 1982. From the time he retired until 1995 he remained in the Denver, CO area and traveled to visit family & friends. In the summer of 1995 he and his wife and daughter moved to Springfield, MO and there he was cared for by his daughter Barbara and wife, Mary until his death.
Calvin will be greatly missed & also remembered & loved.
Graveside services will be held at the Sallisaw Cemetery at 2 PM, Thursday, June 12, 2014 in Sallisaw, OK.
