Carol Deane McCann, age 86, of Springfield, Missouri passed away Monday, October 21, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. She was a compassionate and dedicated registered nurse who touched the lives of many in her community. Carol was born on November 29, 1937, in Joplin, Missouri to Henry and Goldie (Parris) Martin.
Throughout her career at St. John’s Hospital, Carol’s passion for nursing shone brightly as she devoted herself to providing care and comfort to those in need. Her kind and nurturing spirit extended beyond the hospital walls into her role as a school nurse, where she positively impacted the lives of students in Kansas City and St. Louis.
Yet, beyond her professional achievements, Carol’s legacy lies in the love she shared with her family. Carol was united in marriage to Allen Lloyd McCann on December 27, 1957. She was a devoted wife to Allen and a loving mother to her children Kelly Deane, Allen Lloyd “Chip” Junior, Stuart Martin, and Kenneth Edwin. Their family camping trips and visits to the lake were filled with joy and cherished memories. She loved playing card games and other board games where she could connect with the people around her.
Carol’s talents extended beyond her nursing profession; she found joy in crocheting and creating homemade gifts for her loved ones. Her famous chocolate chip cookies, black magic cake, pumpkin muffins, and cinnamon candy creations will forever leave a sweet imprint on the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to taste them.
A woman of unwavering faith, Carol’s belief in God’s love and grace was a guiding light in her life, and she shared that love with all she encountered. She attended the Watermill Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Martin and Goldie (Parris) Martin, and a brother, Henry “Butch” Martin.
Left to mourn her passing is her husband of nearly 67 years, Allen; her children and their spouses, Kelly and Greg Posey, Chip and Yvette McCann, Stuart and Jane McCann, and Ken and Sherry McCann; nine grandchildren and their partners, Mark and Haley McCann, Trevor and Lauren Posey, Tyler and Farida Posey, Kayla McCann and Joe Waters, Trent and Devon Posey, Zach and Shalana McCann, Tanner and Emma Posey, Lauren and Nick Morrissey, Cole McCann and Jordan Warren. Thirteen great-grandchildren, Grey, Evelyn and Calvin McCann, Atlas, Lydia, and Eden Posey, Sofia Posey, Adler and Farren Posey, Corbin, Madoc, and Goldie McCann, Solana Cigala and baby Morrissey on the way. Also surviving are her brother and his wife, Russell and Deanna Martin, her sister-in-law, Roberta Sade, and her brother-in-law and his wife, Gerald and Janet McCann, nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
As we gather to honor Carol’s life, let us celebrate the legacy of a woman who exemplified compassion and kindness. Funeral services will be held at Greenlawn Funeral Home North on October 26, 2024. A visitation will take place at noon, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 pm. Carol will be laid to rest at Patterson Cemetery in Springfield following the service.
Though Carol may have left this world, her spirit of love and care will continue to uplift and inspire those who were fortunate to have known her. May her memory be a blessing to us all.
