Carson Ray Conaway, of Springfield, MO, was born April 10, 1933 in Stone Hill, MO, to Carson and Julia (Mattison) Conaway. Ray went to be with his Lord, Saturday, October 22, 2011, making his age 78.
Ray married Wanda Herbold in Thayer, MO, May 20, 1957, to this union one son, Curtis Conaway, was born. Ray and Wanda made their home in Springfield for 45 years, until Wanda passed November 14, 2002. Ray was also preceded in death by his parents Carson and Julia Conaway.
Ray met Daisy Jewell, who has been the joy of his life for the last five years. Ray and Daisy both loved to work outdoors in the yard and garden. Ray loved to go to Daisy’s and tinker in her yard because she was as he called it “in the country.”
Mourning Ray’s passing is Daisy Jewell of Fair Grove, MO; his son Curtis Conaway and companion Liz of Billings, MO; sister Delores Miller of Battlefield, MO; brother Bill Conaway and wife Barbara of Springfield, MO; sisters- in-law Carol Eder of Thayer, MO, and Anita Smith and husband Wayne of Thayer, MO; nieces and nephews, along with Daisy’s children and grandchildren who he grew to love as his own. Ray will also be missed by his aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Ray served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict spending most of that time stationed in Germany. He loved to tell about his time he spent there and had many stories.
Ray had been a truck driver in his earlier years and saw many places and loved to visit with anyone who knew about trucks. Ray never met a stranger and could find something to talk about with just about anyone.
Graveside services for Ray will be held at 2:00 p.m., October 25, 2011 at Maple Park Cemetery in Springfield, MO. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 12:30-1:30 p.m., Greenlawn Funeral Home North.
