With grace, warmth, and an unwavering devotion to her loved ones, Celeste Elizabeth Groce, 91, of Springfield, Missouri, peacefully departed this world on May 26th, 2025, surrounded by the family she cherished so deeply. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Celeste’s life was a testament to love, faith, and the enduring beauty of the human spirit.
Born on January 13th, 1934, in Springfield, Missouri, Celeste’s journey was rich with purpose and passion. She excelled academically at Greenwood Laboratory School before earning her degree from Drury University, where she was a proud member of Kappa Delta sorority. In her early years, she devoted herself to education, teaching multiple grades in a one-room schoolhouse—an act of love that supported her family while her husband, Robert, pursued law school in Columbia. When they returned to Springfield, Celeste dedicated herself wholeheartedly to nurturing the next two generations of her family, instilling in them values of kindness, curiosity, and unwavering perseverance.
Celeste’s love for the arts was woven into every aspect of her life. She found immense joy in cultivating her garden, turning her home into a haven of ever-blooming beauty—a reflection of her own radiant spirit. Her appreciation for drawing, architecture, and music was lovingly passed down to her children and grandchildren, ensuring that they too would see the world through her lens of artistry and wonder.
Beyond her creative pursuits, Celeste possessed an extraordinary talent for discovering hidden treasures. Whether browsing antique shops, auctions, or garage sales, she had an eye for timeless beauty—transforming her home into a masterpiece of history, vision, and character.
Her faith was the foundation upon which she built her life. A devoted member of the Episcopal church, Celeste carried her spiritual devotion with her always, finding solace in daily prayers even when she could no longer attend in person. Her love for the Lord was evident to all who knew her, a guiding light that shaped her interactions and uplifted those around her.
Strikingly elegant and effortlessly poised, Celeste was often likened to Jackie O in her youth. A lover of fashion, she was rarely seen without a bow in her hair and a stylish dress to match. One of her greatest joys was traveling, particularly to the breathtaking landscapes of Hawaii. In her final moments, the melodies of Elvis’ Blue Hawaii surrounded her, honoring the memories she held so dear.
Celeste was preceded in death by her loving parents, Parker and Zilpha Moon, and her husband, Robert V. Groce. She leaves behind a cherished family: her son, Steven Groce; her daughter, Shari DeArmon, and husband, Michael DeArmon; her brother, Fred Moon; and her beloved grandchildren, Samantha and Nicholas DeArmon. Her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering support touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her, and her legacy of compassion will endure for generations.
A private graveside service will be held on Friday, May 30th, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, where family and friends will gather to celebrate her remarkable life and bid farewell to a woman whose presence was nothing short of extraordinary.
As we mourn her passing, let us honor Celeste by carrying forward the love, joy, and generosity she so effortlessly shared. May her spirit remain a beacon of light in our hearts, reminding us to live each day with kindness and beauty, just as she did.
