Charles Burton Sanders, 84, of Springfield, Missouri passed into eternal life on Friday, November 10, 2017. He was born on August 29, 1933, the son of Paul Madison Sanders and Cleda M. Dudgeon Sanders in Hindsville, Arkansas. He lived in the Ozarks area after serving in Germany for the United States Army Artillery. He played college football in the state of Colorado. He graduated from the University of Arkansas with a Masters Degree in Education.
CharIes married Hazel Todd on September 10, 1960 in Springdale, Arkansas at the First Baptist Church. In his 84 years, he lived as a husband, father, grandfather, coach, teacher, and mentor to countless young men and women. Charles, (or the Silver Fox, as his players affectionately called him) was a football coach for 40 years with the majority of those years as a defensive coordinator and defensive line coach at Kickapoo High School. He was the head of the Driver’s Education program for the Springfield Public Schools. He blessed the youth of the Ozarks with his sharp wit, wisdom, and exemplary walk with Christ, serving as a role model within the community. In 2006 he was inducted into the Madison County Athletic Hall of Fame in Arkansas.
His smile and wisecracks will be sorely missed by his family and many others. He created many wonderful memories, including hosting many pitch games and Sunday football watch parties. One thing he really enjoyed in life was watching his grandkids growing up and playing sports. He has been a member of the East Grand Church of Christ since 1965. He served as a deacon in the church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.
Charles is survived by his wife of 57 years, Hazel Sanders; his three children, Tamrha Scalise and husband Victor, Kelly Young and husband Jim, and Brock and wife Amy. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren Salvatore Scalise, Barrett Young, Carson Young, Brinkley Young,
Ceely Young, Jack Sanders, and Brody Sanders.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Greenlawn Funeral Home East in Springfield, Missouri.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Tuesday at the Greenlawn Funeral Home East.
