Nello McDaniel left a message on December 16, 2022:
Chuck was among the kindest and most gentle individuals I’ve known in my life. I actually don’t remember meeting Chuck because he was always there when I and my brothers were growing up on East Avenue, a half block from the Branson home. I knew him before I got to know his older brother Steve who became my best friend in those unstable middle grade years. As a young kid, Chuck was cheerfully, strangely and uncommonly self-deprecating, quick to praise other’s accomplishments and staunchly loyal and faithful to his friends. It was easy to underestimate him because he didn’t assert or demand personal estimation of himself as so many others did. Chuck was comfortable in who he was without the need for affirmation of others. At least that’s how I knew him whether or not that was his personal reality. After many years of no contact with Chuck I’m grateful that I got to re-connect with him in the last months of my brother Bill’s life. Chuck remained a faithful and reliable friend to Bill until the end. His best friend for so many, many years. It meant so much to Bill. I am comforted knowing that he remained a friend of mine. My wife and I celebrate Chuck’s life of uncommon kindness and gentleness and his giving and caring spirit. Our sincere condolences to Chuck’s wife Kathy and family. Rest in peace gentle friend.
