Charles Edward H’Doubler M.D., of Springfield, passed away on Friday, February 26, 2010 in Cox Medical Center South, with his family by his side. The son of Francis Todd H’Doubler Sr., M.D., Ph.D. and Alice Louise Bemis H’Doubler, Charles was born in Springfield, Mo. on September 23, 1932. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Jo Ann Bauer H’Doubler, and a sister, Alice Margaret H’Doubler. Charles is survived by his wife, Joan M. H’Doubler; his son, Brad H’Doubler, D.C. and fiancé Alyessa Gleason of Springfield, daughter Kelly H’Doubler-Crowder and husband Paul of Monte Nido, Calif.; daughter Kristy Endacott and husband David of Nixa; step-daughter Wendy Steele of Springfield and step-son Kevin Steele of Tulsa, Okla. He is also survived by three siblings, Francis Todd H’Doubler, Jr., M.D. and Peter Bemis H’Doubler, M.D., both of Springfield, and Louise Emerson H’Doubler Nagle of Piedmont, Calif.; Nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, many dear friends, and the new love of his life-his puppy, Guy. Charles attended Greenwood Laboratory School and earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Arkansas. He received his medical degree from Tulane University, New Orleans, La. in 1957, and completed his internship and residency through the Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans, La. Charles returned to Springfield to join his brother Hogan in practice, specializing in general surgery. Dr. H’Doubler enjoyed a very active practice and had wonderful relationships with his patients. He was active in many professional organizations including the Greene County Medical Society, the Missouri State Medical Association, of which he was a 50 year member, and was a member of the American Medical Association. Charles was a 32 nd degree mason, and a member of the Director’s Staff of Abou Ben Adhem Shrine. He was also a member of the Royal Order of the Jesters. In addition, he was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity, the Sertoma Club, and the Elk’s Lodge. Charles was an avid sportsman and spent many happy days floating and fishing on the Gasconade River. He also attended the Great Lakes Shrine Association fishing tournament on an annual basis for over 20 years, and was a trophy winner numerous times. He had a love for birds and was affectionately known among the family as ‘The Birdman of Wildwood’. He enjoyed many years of playing golf and was a long time member of Hickory Hills Country Club. Charles was an active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and looked forward to his weekly participation in Cornerstone Scripture Study. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, March 1, 2010 at Greenlawn Funeral Home East, with Masonic Services at 7 p.m. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception and burial will be on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Hazelwood Cemetery.
