Charles Jesse Phillips of Springfield, Mo went to be with his Lord Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at Cox South Hospital, in Springfield. Charles died of natural causes with his family by his side. He was born March 20, 1925 in Joplin, Mo and he graduated from Duenweg High School.Charles was a member of Wildwood Baptist Church, in Joplin. Among his accomplishments, Charles served as a Merchant Marine and an interview with him is included in the Veteran’s History Project in the Library of Congress. He was also a member of Joplin Masonic Lodge #335 and was a 32nd Degree Mason.He worked for the General Foods Corp as a Sales Representative in the Maxwell House Division for 31 years. This position, along with the help of his wife Barbara, supported a family of nine. Charles was well known among bowlers in the Springfield area. He greatly enjoyed bowling and golf, and he excelled in both sports.Charles is survived by his wife Barbara and his children Debra Stennett and husband Kerry, of Ozark, Connie Grogan and husband Guy, of Elkland, Janeneen Velez and husband Raymond of Terrell, TX, Thomas Phillips of Springfield, and Vickie Blankenship and husband Mike of Marshfield and sister LaVerne Howerton of Joplin. Also surviving Charles are nine grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.Preceding Charles in death were his parents Norman and Fern Phillips, a brother Norman Leroy, a sister Glenda Louise, of Joplin, and a sister Shirley Hailey, of Texas. Also preceding Charles was his wife Darlene who died of Breast Cancer, a daughter Maelynn, and a son Joseph.Charles Jesse Phillips is remembered as a wonderful, loving husband, father and brother. He will be greatly missed.Services will be held at Greenlawn North Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February, 2nd, from 1-3 pm.
