Charlotte Ann (Mullings) Highfill
It is with sorrowful hearts we share the passing of Charlotte Ann Highfill, 79. She entered her Heavenly home on Sunday, November 3, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Charlotte was born on July 11, 1945 in Springfield, MO to James Lee and Ruth Molinda Mullings.
She married Larry Gene Highfill on June 4, 1965 and to this union, two sons were born, Larry Lee and Michael Lee Highfill.
Charlotte graduated from Pleasant Hope High School in 1963 and continued her education at Burge School of Nursing where she obtained her LPN license on March 4, 1965. She began her nursing career at Baptist Hospital in the general medicine department, continued her nursing career at Ferrell Duncan Clinic and retired after 21 years. She then concluded 50 years of nursing as the high school nurse at Willard High School.
Charlotte was saved as a teenager and was a devout Christian. She attended many churches throughout her life and at many of those churches, you could find her sitting at the piano bench, playing her favorite hymns. At her passing, she was an active member at Crossway Baptist Church and believed in giving to the church, specifically to the building fund so the church could continue to grow and reach more souls. Her favorite bible verse was Romans 12:1-2, 1) I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2) And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
She thoroughly enjoyed traveling in her free time and attending medical mission trips. Charlotte was an avid reader. Books were a staple in the home, with her reading a book a day. When she went missing around the house, you could always find her in her sewing room, working on a multitude of things from blankets, burp rags, quilts and more.
Charlotte never met a stranger, loved visiting with everyone and was always there for those who needed her. All of her friends and family have so many amazing memories and stories but one of the family’s favorites was the look on Larry’s face when, due to a sizable purchase, Justice Jewelers rolled out the red carpet for Charlotte. Her infectious laugh and jovial spirit will truly be missed by all those who loved her but her love will live on through her family.
Charlotte is preceded in death by her parents James and Ruth Mullings and her sister Beverly Wilson.
She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Larry Gene Highfill; her two sons, Larry Lee Highfill (Tonya) and Michael Lee Highfill (Shawna); five grandchildren, Nichole Highfill, Trisha Chernick (Brandon), Alycia Ragsdale (Ben), Jessica Crim (Jacob) and Dylan Highfill (Makinzi); seven great-grandchildren, Haydan and Huntar Ragsdale, Kinlan, Lumen and Raxton Highfill,
Oliver and Montgomery Crim; four bonus great-grandchildren, Annahlynn, Brooklynn, Chealynn and Dillynn Crim; her siblings, Doug Mullings (Edie) and Shirley Allison; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
