Chester Lee “Choc” Cossins
Chester Lee “Choc” Cossins, age 94, passed away at home in Brighton, MO, on June 29, 2024. Born on February 6, 1930, in Morrisville, MO, Chester was a devout Christian and a loving and spiritual leader to his family.
Chester proudly served in the US Army during the Korean war stationed in Germany February 1952 to February 1954. After his military career he hauled gravel with his dad until he started working in the steel fabrication field. He worked at Paul Mueller and Holland Steel before going to work at Acme Structural, where he worked from 1972 until his retirement in 1995. After heeding Gods call to preach the gospel at the age of 46, he served as the pastor of New Hope Baptist Church Pleasant Hope, MO, from 1977 to 1995. He demonstrated his dedication to his faith and to his family during this time.
He was currently a member of Brighton Baptist Church where due to health issues didn’t get to attend very often. During his life he was a member of the First Baptist Church Morrisville, MO, where he served for many years as a Sunday School Teacher. He then attended Brighton Baptist Church where he was ordained as a deacon and served that role faithfully for many years. Southern Hills Baptist Church in Bolivar, MO, is where he fell in love with the many mission trips he and his wife went on. He loved going and helping with the needs of fellow churches. He especially loved being able to work alongside his best friends Bob and Marcella Brown. His friendship with Bob stood the test of time. Even with all this his love for preaching the gospel and seeing someone accept the Lord and Savior into their heart overshadows all his other service to the Lord.
Chesters’s hobbies included: going fishing every chance he got, and quality time at the lake with family. He loved attending his grandchildren and great grandchildren’s sporting events every chance he got, this brought him tremendous joy to his life.
Chester is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Larella Cossins; his son and daughter in-law, Jim and Carolyn Cossins; his daughter Judy Cossins Dobbs; grandchildren: Shawn and Rebecca Cossins, Tim and Jana Cossins, Jacob Dobbs, and Kristin Dobbs; great grandchildren: Jonathon Cossins girlfriend Sumer and her children Jayce and Cohen, Elizabeth Cossins, Blake Cossins, Easton Cossins, Jace Dobbs, Kylie Cossins, Hayley Cossins, Nilah Cossins, and Peyton Cossins; one brother Jerry Cossins. He leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Chester was preceded in death by his parents Lester and Manta (Bays) Cossins; in-laws Tom and Lucinda Kilburn; brother Richard Cossins; and sisters Betty Warnecke, and Katherine Fisher; along with many nieces and nephews.
Family visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, and the funeral service will take place at 11:00 am Wednesday, July 3, 2024, all at Pitts Chapel. A burial will follow at Brighton Cemetery Brighton, MO. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Gideons for the purchase of Bibles honoring Chester’s lifelong commitment to sharing his faith.
