Cletis “Clete” Applegate passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 in his home, Bolivar, MO. He was born January 25, 1946 in Ongo, MO.
Cletis was the son of Lou Dytha (Lakey) and Clinton “Curly” Applegate, Sr.
He was united in marriage to Marsha Munden in 1965 and had four children. He enlisted into the U.S. Army in 1968 and served in the Vietnam War where he was decorated with a Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Expert M-14 Marksmanship Badge and Honorably discharged. Cletis was a mason/ brick layer most of his life. He later married Teresa in 1986 and had their son, Scott Wayne, whom he lived with until his passing.
Cletis was an AVID coon hunter and member of the Missouri Coon Hunters Federation where he was awarded countless championship trophies, awards, was held as Master of Arms, and served as a judge in many competitions. He absolutely loved the sport, and his dogs.
He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting & fishing with his buddies, watching wrestling, helping Scott with his trucks and dearly loved spending time with his Grand & Great Grandbabies.
He is survived by his son, Scott Wayne Applegate, and three grandbabies with Shelby Green: Kelsey, Tanner and Mason; his daughter, Sherry Jane Applegate, and three adult granddaughters with Craig Meyer: Destoni Taylor, Alana Jordan, and Bailey Grace Meyer. Alana and Matthew Phoenix blessed Cletis with his first great grandbabies: Asher Lane and Maeve Everleigh Phoenix. He couldn’t get enough of being called Grandpa. He is also survived by his son, Cletis L.E. Applegate “Brother”, wife Carolyn and grandson Vincent Lee Applegate; son, James Keith “Jamie” Applegate & family of Urbana; stepson, Shane Hand & family of Clever; daughter, Holly Miller & family of Camdenton; daughter, Amber Reeves of Phoenix, AZ; his twin brother, Thetis and wife, Anna Mae of Springfield; sisters, Debbie Gazaway and Rosie Perez of Fair Play, Cacky of Springfield. Brother, Roger. As well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends that will greatly miss him.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents, sisters Juanita and Mae; brother Bosco, both Marsha and Teresa, his beloved first born, Loretta Ann “Sissy” and many friends along the way.
He was funny, a fierce competitor, stubborn and full of it most of the time but was also kind, and would help in any way that he could.

Visitation will be held at Greenlawn North Monday, December 19,2022 from 6-8 pm.
Services will be held at Greenlawn North Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at 9:00 am.
Burial will follow with full military honors at Rose Hill Cemetery. Willard, MO.
