Clyde Thompson Gibbs Jr. was born November 24, 1931 in Denver, CO. to Clyde T. Gibbs Sr. and Ella Snavely Gibbs. The family moved to Kansas City when Clyde was 2 years old.
Clyde graduated from Central High School in Kansas City, MO and William Jewell College in Liberty, MO. Clyde worked for the Kansas City Zoo where he bonded with Cleo the hippo and one of the big cats with bad teeth whose food he had to grind. Clyde’s first teaching position was as music director at Steelville High School. Clyde was also a member of the National Guard. Clyde attended Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville Kentucky and after graduation he became a Christian Education Minister at Cape Girardeau, MO. for several years.
Clyde then had the opportunity to recruit students in Southwest MO for William Jewell College. He was also worship leader at Calvary Baptist Church in Independence, MO. Clyde met each challenge in his life with dignity, grace and humor. Clyde was genuinely interested in the lives of the people he met. If you spent 5 minutes with him, you know that. Clyde liked to travel and saw beauty and wonder in each place. Clyde was a Sunday School teacher, church choir and orchestra member, hospital volunteer and participated in several Relay for Life functions.
Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Patty Heustis, daughter Susan Williams, son Paul Gibbs and nephew David Sheridan. He is survived by his wife Pamela Gibbs, daughter Andrea Wilson(Rob), sister Mariecelene Sheridan (Tom), mother-in-law, Goldie Lohse, sister-in-law Vicki Vogt (Bob), brothers-in-law Charles Lohse (Mary) and James Lohse Jr. (Shanda), grandchildren, Brittany, Joel and Bethany Gibbs, Eric, Nina and John Williams, Chase and Liam Wilson, great-grandchildren, Alillya, Lola, Olive, Allison, Wyatt, Kadence and Archer, numerous nieces and nephews, his faithful dog, Tiggy, and many wonderful friends.
