Cue W. Butler, 96, departed from this life on September 11, 2012. He was born November 21, 1915 to William G. (Judge) and Ila Fanning Butler in Blue Eye, MO. He married Lois Epperly in 1941.
In his early childhood, he moved by covered wagon to Oklahoma where they lived for a few years before returning to Blue Eye where he graduated as valedictorian of his class. He taught school while attending college first at State Teachers College (now Missouri State) and then the University of Missouri where he left just before graduation in order to accept his appointment as Postmaster at Blue Eye. He also served in the APO (postal) unit of the U.S. Army in the European theatre during World War II. He and Lois operated a general store in Blue Eye in addition to the post office. In 1975, after 33 years, he retired to the farm. There, he continued to raise cattle until moving to Springfield in 1995.
He was a leader in his community. Cue served on the Blue Eye School Board, the Carroll Electric Co-op Board of Directors, and over 30 years on the Board of Directors of the Bank of Table Rock Lake. He was an officer in the Lion’s Club where he helped cook the meat each year at their annual barbecue as well as with the Arkansas Cattlemen’s Association. He was a 4-H leader for many years. He was instrumental in bringing the public water system to the Blue Eye area. He was trustee for the Blue Eye Memorial Cemetery until his move to Springfield.
He was a faithful servant of God and mankind. He attended the Oak Grove Church of Christ for many years and then in Springfield, the East Sunshine Church of Christ.
He was a big sports fan, especially of the St. Louis Cardinals, and he attended MSU basketball games with his daughter and family into his 90s.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and his sister, Bernell Langston. He is survived by his sons, Terry (Gail), of Mocksville, NC and Steve of Las Vegas, NV; his daughter, Cheryl (Chuck) Patterson of Springfield; 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren who will greatly miss his loving presence.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Sunday, September 16, 2012 at Greenlawn Funeral Home East with graveside services to follow at Blue Eye Memorial Cemetery at approximately 4:30.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 15, 2012 in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fair Haven Children’s Home in Strafford, MO.
