Danny Gail Coffey, 73, of Bolivar passed away Wednesday, February 15th at Joplin Mercy Hospital.  Danny was born on December 25, 1949, in Weaubleau, MO, to Herman Leonard and Iva Pauline (Murray) Coffey. 

Danny graduated from Bolivar High School in 1967 and then attended Draughon Business College in Springfield, MO.  He began a long career in food retail sales, and owning the Ole Tyme Butcher Shop was his pride and joy.

Danny had many loves in his life: his faith, family, friends, playing piano, yard work, and Christmas to name a few.  He was saved on July 11, 1979, and wanted to be baptized in the Jordan River.  Danny’s greatest love was his family.  He was united in marriage on May 12, 1973, to Beverly Vest, and they remained happily married for almost 50 years until his passing.  Danny especially loved watching Jaylie and Jentrie play sports, and he loved it when they would visit.  Favorite pastimes included playing gospel songs on the piano, playing cards, and bowling with his family.  Over the years he made many friends as a parent, youth sports coach, and business owner.  He never met a stranger and was always quick to lend a hand to anyone in need.  In the warmer months you could always find Danny outside, mowing, planting flowers or a garden, and creating flower arrangements for others.  In the colder months Danny would work tirelessly to spread Christmas joy to others.  He prided himself on his elaborate Christmas display, and loved to describe his home as “the house with all the Christmas decorations.”

Danny is survived by his wife, Beverly; children, Lynn Coffey, Jennifer Coffey, Julie (Jamie) Routh; grandchildren, Jaylie and Jentrie Routh; bonus family he loved as his own, Troy, Julie, Jake, and Gage Peaden;  siblings, Winnie Ball, Richard Coffey, Connie Brown, Kenny (Sharon) Coffey, Paul (Ruth) Coffey, Teressa (Albert) Cornell; sisters-in-law, Lois Coffey, Judy Carman, Shirley (John) Greer, Benita (Richard) Farmer; brothers-in-law, Wink Ahart, Frank Steely, Ed (Mary) Vest; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Danny is preceded in death by his parents; father- and mother-in-law, Charles and Ella Mae Vest; brothers, Jim Coffey, Herman Coffey, Jr.; sisters, Donna Ahart, Patsy Steely, Elizabeth Coffey; sisters-in-law, Sharon Coffey and Wanda Sheldon; brothers-in-law, Wilburn Ball, John Brown, and Hardy Sheldon.

Visitation will be from 12:00-2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 18, 2023, with a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. at Pitts Chapel.  Burial will follow at Enon Cemetery in Wishart, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to the Enon Cemetery Fund.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Pitts Chapel Bolivar, MO.
