David Edward Baer was born in Santiago, Chile, on April 6, 1982. He was the son of career missionaries Bill and Terri Baer, and he was the second of 3 sons, his siblings being Jonathan and Daniel.
Jonathan, David and Daniel grew up in Chile and came back to the U.S. to go to college. David graduated with a B.A. in Christian studies from Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, and later with a Master of Divinity degree from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri.
While in college David joined the Arkansas Army National Guard. He later transferred to the Missouri Army National Guard. He enrolled in Army R.O.T.C. and was commissioned as a chaplain.
Always active in his local church, David became a deacon in Central Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri. Upon moving to Tulsa, Oklahoma, he was an active member of South Tulsa Baptist Church. A true missionary kid, David participated in cross-cultural ministry wherever he went.
While in Kansas City David had many friends who had emigrated from Africa. In South Tulsa Baptist Church he was involved in “Coffee and Conversation,” a ministry to help people learn English.
He loved studying languages. Besides being fluent in English and Spanish, David also studied German and Swahili.
David loved his family. When his dad became seriously ill David came to live with him for several weeks to help him and to encourage him.
He was a good man and a good son.
David succumbed to an acute illness on December 19, 2023. He went to heaven where he joined his mother, who preceded him in death the previous year. That was a joyful reunion for both mother and son.
David is survived by his brothers, Jonathan and Daniel, and by his father, Bill.
